Meet Cowboy Mike and Winston at the Ballpark: Eighth Book in the Series Is Here
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Oct. 8, 2026 -- Cowboy Mike and his miniature pony, Winston, have found a new place to go: the baseball stadium. Author Michael Eastwood, who young readers know as "Cowboy Mike," has released Cowboy Mike and Winston: A Day at the Ball Game, the eighth title in his Cowboy Mike and Winston Adventures series.
The picture book is written for children ages 3 to 8. It follows the duo through a day at the ballpark full of baseball, laughs, and lessons.
Along the way, Pedro Grifol helps Cowboy Mike and Winston understand how the game works and why so many people love it. Readers get a front-row seat as the two tour the park, learn baseball facts, and find out that any outing is better with a good friend, even one with hooves.
For Eastwood, the aim is to make learning enjoyable and to give families one more story to share.
"I want children to have fun when they read these books, but I also want them to walk away having learned something," Eastwood said. "Cowboy Mike and Winston have always been about friendship, curiosity, animals, and making learning enjoyable. A Day at the Ball Game gives children a chance to experience baseball through characters they already know and love."
A Look Back at the Last Adventure
The previous book took Mike and Winston in a very different direction. In Cowboy Mike and Winston: A Quest for Clean Water, the pair set out to find clean water for their ranch. They meet Vickie Johnston of H2O Health, who explains why clean, healthy water is so important. The story shows children how water affects people, animals, and the communities they live in.
Stories From Blue Mountain Ranch and Beyond
The series follows Mike and Winston through daily life at Blue Mountain Ranch and into the wider world. Each book entertains first and teaches along the way, with age-appropriate lessons about animals, responsibility, gratitude, community, and the world around us.
More books in the series:
- Cowboy Mike and Winston Go to the Racetrack
- Cowboy Mike and Winston Explore Prescott, Arizona
- A Day in the Life of Cowboy Mike and Winston
- A Day at Blue Mountain Ranch with Cowboy Mike and Winston
Eastwood's lifelong connection to horses and animals is the source of the series. Winston, the miniature pony at the heart of the stories, led to a broader literacy and education mission that encourages children to enjoy reading while learning about horses, ponies, and daily life. The books are meant for kids and for the parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers who read them aloud.
